My husband has been diagnosed with meningitis 3 times and encephalitis 2 times in the last 8 years, it has left him with so much damage that everyday is a strughle for him and us as a family. Doctors can't understand why it keeps flaring up over and over, his neurologist wrote a medical journal on his condition as it is so rare, he is currently in hospital for the 5th time fighting this brain infection, on top of all this he also sufferers from retinitis pigmentosa , life gets really difficult

The movie/book doesn't do true justice to those who have Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. She experienced one month of madness; I experienced 9 months. When I was first misdiagonsed at the age of 18 no one knew about it and there was no treatment so I suffered permanent brain damage and am still going through treatment and recovering 10 years later. There are many more like me out there and many more worse. She has it relatively easy.

I have a close friend who thinks she has this or WNVE but her doctors don't believe her, her MRI, blood work is clear, I can see she is a different person, how do you make your PCP understand? She is also dealing with PCOS and asthma.
