Firedrake, the young silver dragon, has had enough of constantly having to hide in a wooded valley. He wants to show the older generation that he is a real dragon. When humans are about to destroy his family’s very last refuge, Firedrake secretly sets off on an adventurous journey with forest brownie Sorrel. He wants to find the “Rim of Heaven”, the dragons’ mysterious haven. On their quest Firedrake and Sorrel encounter Ben, an orphan and stray, who claims to be a dragon rider. While Ben and Firedrake make friends quickly, Sorrel becomes increasingly distrustful and tries to get rid of the orphan at every opportunity. But the unlikely trio have to learn to pull together, because they are being hunted by Nettlebrand. The evil, dragon-eating monster was created by an alchemist with the aim of tracking down and destroying every dragon on Earth…

Just saw this film, and I hate how they take so much out from the book and replace it with almost dumb kids movie cliche. None of these characters do give you anything to connect to. They feel they are just there because. In the book, everyone had defining traits. Not to mention so many characters are omitted. The rats are gone, the dragon who helped fire drake kill Nettlebrand is gone, the monks are gone, the four armed brownie is gone, Greenboolms family only appears for a brief second, and as for the cliches they added, dang are they uninspired. We got the liar reviled story added with Ben who pretends to basically be Hiccup to get out of something but starts to panic when he finds out what they are doing and has to keep the lie up. Not to mention how much of a jerk they made him. In the book he was a kind caring kid who helped Firedrake and Sorrel cause, well, he was a nice kid. They tried to add this backstory for him but it doesn’t lead to much and just feels like it was added it to give you an artificial feeling of sympathy for him. Firedrake has this dumb thing where he wants to be a real dragon and can only breath fire when he feels Stong emotions. Oh please. Not to mention his design is as lame and basic as you can get. Seriously, these are the Dragon everyone makes a fuss about. They look like the designers got lazy and just had their kids draw the dragons. And Sorrel isn’t the sass queen she was in the book. She was mischievous and spoke her mind pretty honestly and had this cool attitude. This one just feels like she is there to be with Firedrake because she was in the book. They also seem to have one scene where she is getting jealous of Firedrake and Ben’s Friendship, but they almost immediately forget about it. In the book it didn’t take her long to get used to Ben, but here almost 80% of her dialogue is her saying how bad he and other humans are. And let’s not forget all the lame modern day jokes. Seriously, you have a monster made by evil alchemists who was made to hunt and devour all dragons, and the you have him looking for love online. Patrick I know you played a piece of crap before, literally, but you are a respected actor, so have respect for yourself. And how they felt they needed to remind you How to Train Your Dragon did this before. I just want to break into Netflix, and delete this disgrace to film from the face of the earth.

I don't know who told Hollywood they had permission to deviate from source material in such a brazen and gross manner but whoever it was, needs to be drawn and quartered. This was abysmal. There's literally nothing good to say about this.

I don't understand why everyone says things like "when I heard about there's gonna be a movie enspired by my favourite book, I was excited, but when I saw this trailer, I was dissappointed (don't take this sentence personally please). I didn't read that book and didn't even watch the movie, I trust that it's really great to read, and I know that it may frustrates you how this movie looks, but still…I still think it's actually really good family film, it doesn't even look that bad, and also…it's enspired, not copied. So…idk, I'll just say "Don't judge a book by it's cover".
