The content of the movie itself was good, but it was a movie with a completely wrong background.

I'm from Kyushu, but I know the brutality of Christianity (Catholic Eastern Crusade) at that time.

"Pagans are not human beings," so you can do anything. That's Catholicism.

I was doing what I was doing against the Incas, Aztecs, and Islam in the Middle East in Japan.

"Both the dead and the living are judged based on what they do in this world,

The righteous are welcomed to heaven, and the wrongdoers

Thrown into the Fire of Hell" (Revelation 20–12).

Pagans (Buddhist, people who respect Shinto, that is, Japanese) are wrongdoers.

It was "justice" to throw pagans (Japanese Buddhists, Japanese who respect Shinto) into the fire of hell, and it was the duty of a devout believer (Catholic).

In fact, it was not Christ (Catholic) who were actually "burned alive" but the Japanese.

As a result, they (Catholic and the Japanese who converted to Catholics) burned down shrines and temples,

I urged Buddhists to abandon me, and if I refused, I killed them, burned them, and sold them overseas as slaves.

This is what should happen to the evangelists. They have ruined each and every country with the likes of Francis Xavier. Indians here foolishly go to his tomb not knowing how many people he killed and how he looked down on everyone who's not a Christian.

    PPSPPS says:

Now that I think about it, there was a good side to the suppression of Christianity.

Countries that accepted or succumbed to missionaries were ruled by whites.

Why this movie was ignored and shut out by the industry and awards ceremonies is beyond me. It should've swept awards that year left and right. It's an incredible movie, one of Scorsese's very best.
They did the same thing with Ridley Scott's exceptionally wonderful movie: The Last Duel. Hollywood doesn't deserve good movies and filmmakers, I suppose.

As a Christian this movie does not stay faithful to the Bible. One being a true born again Christian can never turn away from god. Jesus said if they went from us they were never part of us(John2:19) You can still call yourself a Christian but truly not be saved. The only saved one’s were the ones who never denied Christ and died for him. Both the apostasy priests were never sold. A trite Christian would endure to the end and died for Christ even if it cost they’re own life’s and others.
