http://www.splicethefilm.com/

Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiments. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature that exhibits uncommon intelligence and an array of unexpected physical developments. And though, at first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams, she begins to grow and learn at an accelerated rate——and threatens to become their worst nightmare.

In these movies there is always this misconception that "HUMAN CLONING IS ILLEGAL", when it isn't, we just don't do it, openly anyway because it takes forever to get it right. In the near future cloning won't be just common, it'll be necessary. Not necessarily human cloning, but animals for sure.

That's what I've said on several occasions. I knew it from happy days :P. Maybe Dren is an outcast, same with nerds. Dren is part human, so if they called her nerd she'd get made, so they named her Dren! That's just a theory though.

The creature (then about 4 human years old), Dren, saw "NERD" on Elsa's t-shirt and spelled it using scrabble letters. So Elsa names her little bundle of joy DREN, on behalf of Dren's exceptional learning aptitude. That's where the name comes from….
