I've spent the majority of my 37 years of life watching Star Trek from TOS to Enterprise and everything in-between and while I agree with your comments on what "true" Trek is all about, I do believe that this take is a great attempt at keeping the franchise alive albeit not in the purest spirit of Mr. Roddenberry. I for one applaud what Abrams has done, love him or hate him, and I greatly look forward to this new entry. The reboot was a great ride and, after all, that's what it's all about. 🙂

JJ is turning Star Trek from science fiction into science FANTASY which is what Star Wars is. What made Trek was the philosophy and shit to teach (like lessons about racism, sexism etc. problems that still exist today). Look I like the new movie, but I hate how it's being turned into a generic space movie about explosions. Half the characters are unrecognizable. JJ is better suited for Star Wars in my opinion.

Normally I'd agree…. But this is StarTrek. They've made us care about random worlds since before I was born. (First Episode 1966) and I can see the Earth being endangered becoming a clishe. Considering that's what the last movie was about too. Perhaps they could have done something showing the Klingon's in this new alternate timeline?

Not true. All the series' had some philosophical elements – not always evident, but still there – some episodes required more and deeping thinking than others – like the last episode of Voyager – if you had timetravel technology, would you go back and change the past, knowing it might change your future on a fundamental level, some people might live, and others that would have been alive will be dead in the new timeline?

I'm thinking Hollywood is taking a new approach – a new type of filmmaking that involves deep, philosophical plot development – the unleashing of the darkness within, etc. 🙂 😛 🙂 But I digress…it could also be my imagination! 🙂

If anything, less Klingons would be better than more. The original movie series had way too many – plus we got a boatload of them on the TV series as well – DS9, Voyager, TNG for example. Time to focus on new races, ships and technology (First Contact and new movies). New storylines would be nice too – too many plot rehashes from one TV series to the next – Q and the Continuum would be a nice storyline!

Yes I would loove to see a Q episode, that would be really neat expanding that whole side of things from TNG. Although I don't think we can focus on new races, as this technically is happening before the original series started….
