(TV-Show interpretation) I think the reason Black Noir (Earving) likes Homelander so much is because Homelander possesses the powers of Soldier Boy but doesn't abuse Noir, even though he could and even though he has all the same reasons to as Soldier Boy (barely any). Homelander seems to respect, trust and slightly look up to Noir as an older experienced supe.

Noir probably didn't mention Soldier Boy to Homelander because he figured Homelander would feel threatened and even more paranoid if he knew Noir betrayed his previous leader equal to Homelanders strength. But also because Black Noir didn't want Homelander to become like Soldier Boy (even though he more or less already did), to not even remind him of Soldier Boy. Noir perhaps figured that Homelander's unawareness that he was Soldier Boy's son was the only thing separating him from becoming his cruel father, and all Noir wanted was a leader, despite his other flaws, that wasn't Soldier Boy.

Killing Black Noir was one of the dumbest things Homelander has ever done, because Noir REALLY DID have his back in ways he couldn't really even understand. I think even keeping the secret from Homelander was not something Noir considered a betrayal, because it was partially for Homelander's own protection. Don't get me wrong, I think Noir's primary reasons were NOT wanting to rock the boat or do anything that might lead to Soldier Boy coming back and being a threat to him personally again. But at the same time, I think Noir felt like Soldier Boy was a father Homelander would be better off NOT knowing. Part of why he didn't tell him was BECAUSE he cared about Homelander and didn't want to see him hurt (emotionally, if not physically). Now, Homelander has no one who is on his side because they actually CARE about him except Ryan… and I really see that going very badly for him in the future.

I just love the character depth in this show. Both where crap people but you sorta understand and feel bad for both. You even have this turkey below saying about how black noire deserved more than being paired with monsters when he was one. That's what the boys did best is making monsters human.
